Is AI Making Your Content Boring? Here’s How to Make it Stand Out.

Posted by Cory Allen on Jul 31, 2025

Let’s be honest. You’re using AI to help create content. Everyone is. These new tools are incredible for brainstorming ideas and churning out drafts at lightning speed. They’re a massive boost to efficiency, and in a world where you need to publish constantly, that feels like a superpower.

But there’s a problem, and it’s getting bigger every day.

AI writing tools are fantastic for content generation – boring content, however, is not fantastic.

As everyone starts using the same tools, a digital “sea of sameness” is flooding the internet. AI models, trained on the same massive datasets, tend to produce similar, generic, and frankly, soulless content. It’s correct, but it has no flavor. No personality. No spark.

So, how do you keep your brand from drowning in a sea of beige blog posts?

The answer isn’t to ditch AI. It’s to stop thinking of it as the chef and start treating it like a kitchen assistant. The real magic – the secret ingredients that will make your content truly special – are already inside your business.

Why AI-Generated Mush Won’t Cut It

Relying solely on AI is like trying to win a bake-off with a generic, store-bought cake mix. It might look like a cake, but it won’t win you any awards. Here’s why it falls short with both your audience and the search engines that connect you to them.

Google’s New AI Overviews are Raising the Bar
You’ve seen them—those AI-powered answer boxes at the top of Google. They scrape information from multiple sites to give users a quick summary. This means that for your content to even have a chance of being clicked, it needs to offer something more than a basic definition. Users who click through are looking for the real deal: deep insights, practical examples, and genuine expertise. Generic AI content just doesn’t have that.

E-E-A-T: The Acronym You Need to Know
Google uses a concept called E-E-A-T to judge content quality: Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. It’s their way of asking, “Is this content actually helpful and written by someone who knows what they’re talking about?”

AI-generated content struggles with this test because:

  • It has no “Experience.” An AI has never used your product. It has never felt a customer’s frustration or celebrated their success.
  • It has no true “Expertise.” It can mimic an expert by summarizing information, but it doesn’t have the credentials or nuanced understanding that comes from years in the trenches.
  • It builds no “Trust.” Trust comes from transparency and accountability. Who wrote the piece? A faceless algorithm? Is the information 100% accurate, or is it an AI “hallucination”? Without a real human standing behind the content, trust is fragile.

In this new landscape, the bar for quality is higher than ever. To win, you need to prove your content is made by humans, for humans.

The Value of a Human-Powered Content Strategy

The best way to rise above the noise is to combine the efficiency of AI with the two most valuable, unique resources you have: your people and your data.

Resource #1: Your In-House Rockstars (aka Subject Matter Experts)

Your company is filled with experts. They’re in your engineering department, your sales team, your customer support center.

Lean on the experts in your company to add value to your AI-generated content.

These Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) are your greatest content asset. They hold the stories, the nuanced opinions, and the real-world examples that AI could never invent.

How to Use Them (Without Wasting Their Time): SMEs are busy. Don’t just ask them to “write a blog post.” That’s a recipe for endless delays. Instead, build a process that makes it easy for them to add their magic:

  1. Give them a Head Start
Use AI to generate a solid first draft based on a clear brief. Do the heavy lifting for them.
  1. Ask for the Gold
Send the draft to your SME and ask specific questions. “Can you add a real-life example here?” “Is this technically accurate?” “What’s the one thing people always get wrong about this?”
  1. Weave it all Together
Your content writer’s job is to take that expert feedback—those stories, corrections, and insights—and weave it seamlessly into the article, ensuring the expert’s voice shines through.

Resource #2: Your Customer Goldmine (aka Your Help Center)

If you want to know what content to create, stop guessing and start listening. Your help center data – support tickets, chat logs, forum posts, and FAQs – is a goldmine of customer pain points. It’s a literal record of what your customers are struggling with, the questions they’re asking, and the language they’re using.

How to Use It:

  1. Find the Patterns – Analyze your support data. What are the top 5 most common questions your support team answers? What problems pop up again and again?
  1. Turn Problems into Content – Use these insights to create hyper-relevant content briefs. If customers are constantly asking how to integrate two features, write the ultimate “how-to” guide.
  1. Solve, Don’t Just Sell – Use AI to help draft a response that directly solves that problem. Then, have your writers refine it with empathetic, customer-focused language. Cross-reference it with an SME to ensure the solution is robust and technically sound.

This approach creates content that isn’t just SEO-friendly; it’s genuinely helpful because it’s born from real customer needs.

The Payoff – Content That Actually Connects (and Converts)

When you blend AI efficiency with your human expertise, the result is content that AI alone can’t touch. This hybrid model doesn’t just produce better articles; it builds a better business.

  • You Stand Out – Your content will have a unique voice and perspective, full of real stories and insights that can’t be replicated.
  • Google Will Trust You More – This process naturally builds all the E-E-A-T signals that search engines look for, boosting your authority and visibility.
  • Your Audience Will Actually Care – By addressing real problems with expert solutions, you build deep trust and a loyal following.
  • You Attract Better Leads – The people who find and appreciate this deep, expert content are often the ones who are ready to make a decision. Your content becomes a powerful engine for conversions.

This creates a virtuous cycle: great content earns trust and visibility, which brings in more engaged customers, which in turn gives you more data on what they need.

The Future is Human-AI Teaming

AI isn’t going anywhere. But in a world awash with automated content, your greatest competitive advantage is your humanity. Your people’s experience, expertise, and empathy are the ingredients that will set you apart.

Stop chasing volume for volume’s sake. Start leveraging AI as the powerful assistant it is, and empower your human experts to do what they do best: share their knowledge, tell their stories, and build real connections.

That’s how you create content that not only ranks but resonates.
